Rail leader update on safety
DRACAS: are we there yet?
The roadmap to the National CCS DRACAS was issued last year, but where are we on the journey?

The National Control, Command and Signalling (CSS) Defect Recording, Analysis Corrective Action System (DRACAS) promises to deliver significant value for GB rail. By enabling CCS data to be shared across the industry, it’ll allow your organisation to detect and respond to defects within a CCS system.
This capability will improve safety and reliability. But the value of DRACAS can be monetised, too. The potential benefit to industry is £231m over 10 years. Doing nothing, meanwhile, could cost £351m in disbenefits.
The Asset Integrity Group (a cross-industry specialist risk group) has been working with industry and RSSB to get DRACAS over the line. It issued the roadmap for establishing DRACAS last year, and it’s now coordinating the work to ensure the deliverables are realised.
There’s a lot of work to do, but collaboration and change within the industry are necessary to unlock the potential value. Watch this video for the full safety update on DRACAS.
