RSSB recognised for freight research
A win for our Head of Research Delivery at the Rail Freight Group Awards
RSSB’s Head of Research Delivery was recognised for his Outstanding Individual Contribution to freight research at this month’s Rail Freight Group Awards.
Aaron Rostron-Barrett’s dedication to delivering valuable insights from freight research earned him this well-deserved win. His work with various stakeholders to establish the first freight priority within the Rail Technical Strategy was also included in this recognition.
Over his career, Aaron has made huge contributions to rail freight. Going beyond traditional research, he has created tools and usable outputs that provide valuable insights for the sector.
His work on trailing load limits has been particularly impactful. It’s helping businesses get more from their existing assets. It’s also delivering great value from the DfT investment in RSSB research.
Aaron has taken on the innovation challenge. He’s been working with suppliers, partners, and industry to shape promising ideas into practical solutions. In particular, Aaron has:
worked on improving the visibility of heavy axle weight routes
worked with Network Rail to deliver a prototype infrastructure model
worked with universities to overcome challenges in reaching freight speeds above 75 mph.
In addition, Aaron’s work with Railfreight Consulting has unlocked sizeable benefits, achieving up to 20% increases in trailing loads. This could save the industry £52m per year.
And finally, his work with GBR TT to prioritise freight within the Rail Technical Strategy has been vital. It’s helped create a roadmap that communicates the technical goals of rail freight.
Please join all of us at RSSB in congratulating Aaron on this significant achievement.
