A roadmap for action
Unpacking the Rail Health and Safety Strategy's 2024-2029 Delivery Document.
The rail industry's commitment to the safety and wellbeing of our workforce, passengers, and the public is paramount. The cornerstone of this commitment is the Rail Health and Safety Strategy (RHSS), a strategic framework designed to lead substantive and sustainable safety improvement. Leaders have a crucial role: to actively endorse and drive its implementation.
The RHSS, forged through collaborative leadership, articulates a clear vision: Striving for the healthiest, safest affordable railway in the world. This vision is underpinned by a focused approach to five critical risk areas:
Health and Wellbeing: Cultivating a culture that prioritises both physical and mental health.
Operations: Guaranteeing the safe and reliable execution of train and passenger operations.
Occupational Health and Safety: Safeguarding the health and safety of every rail worker.
Asset Management: Ensuring the robust maintenance and continuous improvement of railway infrastructure.
Public Behaviour: Mitigating risks from public interaction with the railway.
