From equality to environmental management systems, we at RSSB have earned a handful of new accolades in 2024. We’re committed to continuous improvement in all areas of our business. We want to take this opportunity to share these efforts with you.

Gold accreditation in equality, diversity, and inclusion

Our goal is always to deliver impactful work. To do that, we must have a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture. When our colleagues and members feel comfortable being their authentic selves, with their unique perspectives and experiences, we can really do our best work.

Working with the Clear Company, a leader in inclusive talent management, we’ve been able to embed equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) more firmly into our business. This dedication earned us a gold accreditation in EDI. It’s an accomplishment we’re particularly proud of.

For several years now, our RSSB colleagues have been working tirelessly to create a more seamless approach to employee wellbeing. This year, that work earned us our gold accreditation in Investors in Wellbeing.

We want to—and must—do business in a way that’s good for our planet. And according to research, employees feel happier at companies that prioritise environmental activities. These are some of the reasons gaining the Certification in Environmental Management Systems was so important to us.

This standard gives us the framework to reduce our environmental impact and track our progress in this area. It also gives our people the tools and support they need to get more involved in eco-friendly activities. But above all, it’s a promise. It tells our colleagues, members, and affiliates that we’ll do our part to build a more sustainable future.

You know better than anyone the complexity of our rail network and the criticality of collaboration. Building and maintaining productive partnerships across the industry is vital. Gaining our Certification in Collaborative Business Relationship Management Systems will help underpin our efforts here.

In particular, this standard will help us deliver complex projects with success and manage risks more effectively. And of course, it will help us build meaningful long-term relationships. Our commitment to cross-industry collaboration is evidenced in many of our projects and initiatives, but this accomplishment gives us the means to ensure success time and again.

Certification in Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (ISO 45001:2018)

For over 20 years, we’ve worked hard to ensure that risk on the rail network is managed and minimised. This year, we turned the focus inward, gaining the Certification in Occupational Health and Safety Management.

At RSSB, we’re committed to ensuring safety and happiness for our colleagues. We believe it’s the key to retaining our world-class talent and delivering the best we can for our members and affiliates. This certification will provide the framework we need for better managing occupational health and safety risks. Ultimately, this will boost our organisational resilience and keep us compliant and committed.

Outstanding Individual Contribution

At this year’s Rail Freight Group Awards, one member of the RSSB team received a very special recognition. Aaron Barrett, our Head of Research Delivery, was awarded for his contributions to freight research.

Aaron has worked hard to drive our Freight Research Programme, ensuring the delivery of valuable insights from this research. He’s also helped to establish the first freight priority within the Rail Technical Strategy. In doing so, Aaron has demonstrated many of RSSB’s values:
