The Train Accident Risk Group (TARG) is a cross-industry group that collaborates on the risks arising from train operations. TARG oversees the delivery of the train operations aspects of RHSS.
The subgroups that report to TARG are:
Heritage Trains Risk Group
SPAD Risk Subgroup
Overspeed Group
RAATS User Group

The Train Accident Risk Group is committed to supporting and collaborating with the railway industry to mitigate train accident risk. By addressing key precursors to incidents such as overspeed, conducting effective investigations, ensuring safety critical communications, and fostering industry cooperation, we aim to standardise our risk management approach. This includes building on our comprehensive data library and leveraging lessons from experience to drive continuous safety enhancements.

The People on Trains and Stations Risk Group (PTRSG) leads and facilitates collaborative activities on risks to the workforce, passengers, and public at stations, on platforms, and on-board trains. The group proactively drives best practice, sets standards, and provides monitoring and analysis to underpin the strategic direction set out in the RHSS.
Two working groups currently report to PTRSG:
Stations Working Group
On Board Trains Working Group
PTSRG does not carry out any safety management responsibilities. It supports collaboration and brings efficiencies in duty holders’ own activities to meet their safety responsibilities.

Recognising the need to renew and refresh the industry Platform Train Interface (PTI) strategy, we aim to address changes in risk profiles, enhance our understanding of accessible travel needs, and incorporate lessons learned from recent PTI events. We will work collaboratively with our industry partners to mitigate risks associated with station operations, on-board trains, and the PTI. By understanding the risks and challenges operators face, we will build and execute a focused action plan to meet both current and future industry needs.
