We will enable the rail industry to increase its resilience to extreme weather and climate change in cost-effective and proportionate ways.
We will systematically assess the complex factors that affect the rail industry’s resilience to extreme weather events.
We will continue to develop cutting-edge insights and capabilities, such as new risk modelling and analytical approaches, expertise, insights, and systems to support industry decision-making managing the impact of, and responding to, extreme rainfall, heat, wind, and other climate change factors.
We will continue to facilitate the industry Climate Change Adaptation Working Group (CCAWG) to define a collaborative industry approach to weather resilience and climate change, including developing and supporting the implementation of maturity models to measure the rail industry’s climate change resilience.
Resilient and proportionate operational responses: The rail industry will be able to deliver the optimal operational performance for railway staff, passengers, and freight, while continuing to meet safety and other obligations.
Targeted investment in assets and operations: Improved weather resilience will help deliver the best value for money and returns for the industry.
Weather resilient practices integrated into industry systems and plans: The assessment of extreme weather, and climate change adaptation, are embedded in industry practices, planning, and management.
