We will promote greater data interoperability through the provision of new guidance and standards, enabling industry to share, integrate, and analyse data quickly and easily, increasing its value.
We will identify and document the data flows and common data requirements for key industry data systems that support the operation of the railway, and seek alignment with the telematics specifications and international and European standards.
We will identify key industry data areas where improved interoperability would bring most benefit and we will work with stakeholders to bring that about, through digitalisation and standardisation.
We will explore the development of key data requirements that set good practice to facilitate data exchanges.
We will support wider industry and government initiatives such as the National Transport Data Strategy and the National Digital Twin Programme, to promote cross-sector advancements in analysis capability, including AI.
Improved operation of the railway: Better availability and use of data will increase safety, efficiency, reliability, and customer experience.
Cost efficiency: Improved data interoperability and digitalisation can underpin significant savings. Other sectors estimate an annual cost reduction of between 1% and 2%.
